I have watched it a few times already. Gene Hackman is terrific as the ex Southern sheriff who is now FBI with Willem Dafoe the younger more idealistic lead agent sent to investigate the disappearance and possible murder of 3 young activists in the Civil Rights movement. Images are sharper, more vivid, contrast is excellent, even in dark scenes (the scenes in the night), images look beautiful and sharp.
2:03 Its a shame that murdering three innocent boys serving those in need would be the ones killed, however, there were many people killed that are not even known to this date as racism was tolerated without legal worries back than!
What a fantastic film, Gene Hackman and Willem Dafoe at their best, goes into the problem that occurred in the deep south involving the Klu Klux Klan. The movie reminds everyone in the USA about the right to vote or should i say the inability to vote for some! Mississippi Burning, a cracking thriller set in 60s Deep South USA, where racism was rife. It also saddened me too, for the way people can treat other people just because of the color of their skin, and what they had to endure in those days, which even though, in the USA everyone has equal rights, racism and white supremacy still endures today. Gripping police drama, set in the deep south, not exactly subtle but great story and characters...with Gene Hackman outstanding I thought.
This review is for the Mississippi Burning blu ray edition released on June 18, 2019 by Kino Lorber. I hadn't seen it for some time and caught it late on one night and decided to buy own copy. Get the freshest reviews, news, and more delivered right to your inbox! | 1:52 The contrast between Hackman's veteran policeman and DaFoe's fresh-faced and naive youngster allows for some truly exceptional dialogue which helps to illustrate and make sense of some of the most bitter of social conflicts. This is one of my favorite movies so I ordered the blu ray from amazon UK last year. Both Hackman and DaFoe are superb, as are the supporting caste (especially Brad Dourif, who is always effective when portraying unsavory characters). One of the best films ever made. In fact, as I was watching the movie I was amazed how beautiful the cinematography was (something I hadn't noticed before). Just confirm how you got your ticket.Fandango January 1, 2000 Not seen this for some years, and I find now that it has lost none of its intense dramatic power, much of which is down to the incredible performance of Gene Hackman who clearly demonstrates he is one of cinemas greatest stars. Defoe plays the prissy politically correct FBI man investigating racial murders in Mississippi.

I hope to see the rating of this movie reach 9.0 or higher! Eventually Dafoe has to compromise his principles and allow Hackman to use less than legal methods to flush out the local KKK members including the local sheriff to bring the baddies to justice. 2:15

Overall, Mississippi Burning is an entertaining, albeit one-dimensional, look at the ruthlessness of the Southern Civil Rights Movement. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. It also saddened me too, for the way people can treat other people just because of the color of their skin, and what they had to endure in those days, which even though, in the USA everyone has equal rights, racism and white supremacy still endures today. Cleverly directed, beautifully acted and utterly shocking, yet inescapable. I'm still amazed to this day when I get blank stares after I've asked someone have they seen Mississipi Burning. Mississippi Burning: Official Clip - Searching the Swamp To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. "Mississippi Burning" surveys the geography of racism, sheds light on the dark night of the soul. Hackman justifies this approach given the wall of silence which meets the official FBI investigation team.
