The 12BVSS is Gordon Landers' personal rifle and he chose to equip it with a Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x40mm scope. My RCBS scale only goes down to 8 oz, so the lower threshold is a best guess, but I would peg it at somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 oz with an upper limit of 10 oz.The break is oh-so-very crisp with no over-travel.

That big fluted bull barrel was too hot to touch with bare hands when I was done.My average group radius for those ten shots measured .540 inches.
FTF in RTP/RDU/Raleigh area -----Details:-243 Winchester (seems to no longer be available in this caliber)-26” Heavy Varmint profile, fluted stainless steel barrel-stainless steel action-large bolt handle The Savage safety blade design is an ultimate safety device especially for the very light Target trigger.
The Savage fits the bill nicely. That said, here’s my one gripe about the stock.
Problem solved. One last note about comfort. However, it only does it with 100% repeatability when you vigorously cycle the bolt. Any comments greatly appreciated. For those wanting to know more on the method, I may make a request to our resident math nerd. It’s nicely textured with all the right places to put your hands and sandbags. 1; 2; Next. I own this very rifle in .243, I found this to happen at first use, I pondered the situation and figured it out for myself. But I can tell you about the effect. Love the accuracy and reliability of the rifle, HATED the trigger. and .308 Win. Savage is spanking not only rifle makers in its $$$$ class but even the bigger $$$$$ class. The Varminter is not as butter-smooth as several other mass-produced rifles on the market, but it is a vast improvement over the old Savage 110 of a few years ago.The Model 12 Varminter’s action is CNC-machined from a billet of 400 series stainless steel and features a push-feed style bolt with a sliding-plate extractor and a spring-loaded plunger-type ejector. The legendary affordability and accuracy of Savage rifles is the result of several things, one of which is the large barrel nut that attaches the barrel to the receiver. With the trigger.
As nothing more than a gun enthusiast, my guess is at best uneducated, but YouTube user cmac860 has a perfect video showing the same problem I ran up against. If this gun belonged to me, it would be in a box headed back to Savage for some fixing. This is by design of the model savage model 12 long range precision rifle with the Target Trigger.
Go look at the Anschuetz 5018 trigger group, or a Jewell, etc. Last week I shot my best group ever, a .06 at 100 yds. The Varminter is fitted with a 26-inch fluted stainless steel heavy barrel with a 1:12-inch right-hand twist. We tested the rifle in the new .204 Ruger chambering on the range and experienced no malfunctions of any kind.
The Savage’s New Model 12 F-Class is the best shooting rifle that I`ve ever witnessed. The Savage safety blade …

Anyone have experience or comment on preferences?I have a Savage 12 No magazine single shot with 36 power Japanese Tasco on it ( I’ve had the scope for years) In 22-250 was always gong to rebarrel to 6 mm Ackley Improved, that said I have never gotten a group at 100 yards off the bench, bigger then 3/8″ edge to edge, my accutriggger preforms flawlessly but it wont go down past 6 ounces.
As I’ve mentioned in countless reviews, my hands are small so what most shooters consider average size controls run a little large when I’m using a gun.But I didn’t have that problem with the Savage at all. Naturally, all of our Savage 12 Series Varmint rifles wear telescopic sights.
The Axis/Edge has one action length and screw spacing for both long and short action cartridges. Just thought I'd share a target that I shot yesterday during the final barrel break-in of my Savage 12BVSS in Win .243.
I kinda like the BVSS stock but you cannot get it chambered in .243. Group size is .250-.200, below 1/4inch at 100 yards. There’s no free lunch, folks. and 80 gr. My average group radius for that test was .399 inches vs. .406 inches for the cold bore test. Price Match (0) Savage 12FCV 204 RUG $ 509.00 (3) Savage 12BTCSS VAR 204 RUG DBM THS.
Reference my table above and you’ll see the exact same measurement for the cold bore test.Next I left the barrel fouled (and very hot) then put five rounds of 58 gr. I grew to love it but it needs wheels under it ! Bigger really is sometimes better.I use the average group radius method for measuring consistency with all my tests.
