It is usually reccomended for children from 9-10 years old, but our chold has read it earlier than that and the only explanations she needed were of the biblical references, that are to be expected in books from that time period. Maybe if you’re going on a long flight or car ride than take it with you to read, otherwise it’s kind of a daunting task. Original artwork at the beginning of each chapter.

Beware of the difference between the hardcover and softcover of this edition: the hardcover is a single volume, and the softcover is a boxed set! Minimal artwork aside from a small penned graphic at the beginning of each chapter and a couple of diagrams, including map of Narnia.
